The four biggest bathroom mistakes….

Did this grab your attention? Yes, all four bathroom mistakes that I’m about to mention can potentially cause germs and bacteria to flourish but the good news is, they are easy to fix.

Please read on to see if you are guilty of one or all of the biggest bathroom mistakes and find out the best way to solve them.

  1. Keeping toothbrushes on the sink counter

Starting off with bathroom mistakes, I have left my toothbrush in a container on the counter (co-mingling with other brushes) for years. But not anymore. What’s the big deal? There are two problems with this. The first has to do with what is coming into contact with the brushes. Researchers have found that when you flush your toilet and the lid is up, tiny contaminated water droplets can travel and land on items around the bathroom.

This includes your toothbrush if you leave it on the counter. So, close your toilet lid each time you flush and try storing your toothbrush upright in an area that keeps it dry and covered. The second problem is putting your household’s tooth brushes altogether. Even though we brush, our mouths play host to lots of different bacteria. When the brushes are stored so close together, they run the risk of passing germs back and forth. So please, keep the brushes separate.

  1. Keeping bar soap in an un-drainable container

If you use bar soap, then you really want to make sure that the dish you store the soap in has some sort of drainable bottom to allow the soap to dry out in-between uses. When the bottom of the soap stays wet, it becomes a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Raise that soap up and allow it to drain. Also, remember to clean the dish regularly.

  1. Trim your shower curtain liner to fit your tub.

When a shower curtain gaps and ripples due to an improper fit, it can play host to a variety of bacteria within the bunched area on the liner. Simply measure and trim away areas of the liner so the curtain hangs flat and smooth. Replace them as needed or they can be washed/reused if directions allow for it to be washed.

  1. Using loofahs or sponges far too long.

It’s recommended that you replace your loofahs, bath poofs and sponges every three weeks as well as hanging it up to dry in-between uses. Sound familiar? Wet = possible bacteria growth. A great way to remember is to just replace the loofah or sponge. Do this every time you buy some other item that you replace every three weeks. This can get super expensive though. Try using cotton wash clothes. It is a much more cost effective habit and they are washable/reusable.

How do you prepare for spring cleaning?

Spring cleaning is here! For some, that’s very exciting news. But for many people out there, it can be a daunting task. That is to be expected, though. When so much has to get done, it can get very overwhelming.

But similar to a hard workout, spring cleaning feels very rewarding after its completion. The rooms are squeaky clean, and the air smells fresher. In order to make it a little easier, we put together a list of tips. Hopefully, the task at hand is made simpler with them.

Spring Cleaning Tips

Organization is Key – Putting together a list will make the process feel more manageable. Highlight the biggest problem areas and put them at the top. Depending on how specific you want to get, you can even write down estimates for how long each job will take. Having a plan for each room will make the process a whole lot easier.

Declutter – Studies have shown that too much clutter causes stress. So, getting rid of any unnecessary items is basically meditation. Too much clutter will only make the cleaning process harder. If you have a bin of clothes that you don’t wear anymore, get rid of it. Everything will go a lot smoother without all that clutter around.

Follow the Top to Bottom Rule – For each room, you should start cleaning at the top and then work your way down. This means dusting cabinets should go before vacuuming the floor. Because if you vacuum first, the dust from the cabinets will go onto the carpet. Then you’ll have to vacuum all over again.

Make Your Cleaning Tools Portable – Instead of trying to clutch every cleaning supply you own with your bare hands, find a container that’s easy to hold. You can get a caddy just about anywhere. We found ours off Amazon. If you want something more heavy-duty, then consider investing in a rolling cart. Spring cleaning does not have to be difficult. Just take it one room at a time and you’ll be fine. Having the right mindset and strategy helps make the process a whole lot easier or contact us for you cleaning needs. We are here to help.
